Karate Kubs is a great way for children ages 3-5 to be introduced to the many benefits of Martial Arts. These specialized classes are only 30 minutes in length and focus on not only the basics of Okinawan Kenpo Karate, but also on following directions, listening, motor skills, balance, etc

The Olathe Karate Academy is a kata based style of the Martial Arts. These katas (karate routines) have been passed down for hundreds of years and contain every aspect of real life self-defense.Our beginning Kata classes introduce the most basic forms and their application.

The beginning Drills and Sets classes are yet another way in which Olathe Karate Academy students enhance their training. These classes have a very “hands on” approach and prepare students for the intermediate ranks, sparring, etc.

The intermediate Kata classes are comprised of students who have achieved the rank of blue belt…4th rank toward achieving black belt. Instruction is focused on the katas required for promotion to green, purple and brown belt. These classes move at a much quicker pace than the beginning classes in order to prepare students for the advanced ranks.

The intermediate Drills and Sets classes are comprised of students who have achieved the rank of blue belt...4th rank toward achieving a black belt. As students are required to begin sparring at this level, these classes are very focused on improving necessary skills such as speed, distance, timing, power, etc.

The advanced Kata classes focus on training students who have achieved at least the rank of a brown belt. All students have trained for at least 18 months and therefore, the pace and tempo of this class is much more intense than beginning and intermediate classes. All katas needed to attain the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt are taught in these classes.

The advanced Drills and Sets class focuses on training students who have achieved at least the rank of a brown belt. All students have trained for at least 18 months and therefore, the pace and tempo of this class will be much more intense than beginning and intermediate classes. Students are expected to practice drills and sets in preparation for earning a 1st Degree Black Belt.

The most advanced of all the kata classes, the Black Belt Kata class focuses on instruction of the most difficult forms the system has to offer. Much emphasis is placed on practical application and understanding of the self-defense principles and techniques found within the forms.

Okinawan Kobujitsu (Okinawan Weapons) is the style of weaponry instructed at the Olathe Karate Academy. Training is focused on the following weapons: Bo (staff), Tonfa, Sai, Nun-te Bo, Oar, Kama and Nunchuka. The Philipino art of stick fighting, Arnis, is also studied in these classes. Students who have achieved intermediate ranking are eligible to attend these classes with the permission of Sensei Jamie Palmer. Click here to learn more about the OKA Weapons Program.

Okinawan Jujitsu is the style of grappling studied at Olathe Karate Academy. Emphasis is placed on real world techniques, including takedowns, arm breaks, submission holds, etc. Please note that the Olathe Karate Academy does not train UFC, cage-fighters, etc. All training is solely focused on real world self-defense.

The Master’s Club Black Belt class is designed for the best of the best. Only students who have devoted many years to their training are able to attend this class. Complete focus of execution at a master level is the goal and expectation of this class.

The Aerobic Kickboxing/Health and Fitness classes are a great way to get in shape, lose weight, and tone your body, etc. all in a fun and energetic environment. While listening to music, students are instructed and led in basic punching and kicking exercises. Much emphasis is placed on “bag work”. you do not have to be enrolled in the karate program to take advantage of these classes.

The Kid’s Fun Free Play is exactly that…kids having fun and playing freely! Dodgeball, Cat and Mouse, Red Light Green Light and other fun games are all part of this 45 minute session. No worries though; all games and activities are led by a qualified OKA instructor. This class is meant to increase motivation in the other karate classes, therefore attendance is a privilege. Students with unsatisfactory behavior will not be allowed to attend.
